Deconstruction of the wall began November 9, 1989.
November 9th.
Thursday the 9th of November 1989.
The Berlin wall was knocked down because that was the end of East and West Germany. It was the end and the death of Communism. The history of the Berlin wall is tragic to say the least. One day, in the sixties, there was no wall, and all of those in Berlin could travel anywhere in the city without a wall separating them from loved ones. Overnight, a wall went up, which sent the city into panic, despair, and heartbreak. Some loving families were separated forever. Tragically, there were some valiant individuals who tried to climb over the fence and were shot in their efforts to get to the other side. They were shot and killed on sight. Other such brave souls. patiently dug a tunnel near the border so that those behind the iron curtain could escape to freedom back into West Germany, with only the clothes on their backs. One has to applaud the heroism of those who stood up to communism and to those who gave freedom and victory back to those who had lost so much when the wall had gone up. The Berlin wall came tumbling down to cheers and applause in 1991. It makes you proud to be a fellow human being when you think of the valiant souls who walked beneath the earth in a shallow crawlspace, to take parties to freedom, while armed guards ordered to shoot to kill surrounded them from up above. Such bravery brings tears to my eyes.
till you die or if you were released on the day it was taken down
The destruction of the Berlin wall began, not as the result of anyone's order, but rather it was the result of the final breakdown of authority of the East German Government. The demolition of the wall could be said to have developed out of an international press conference which began in East Berlin on 9 November 1989. There had been massive demonstrations against political repression for months. As the peace conference ended, greater freedom of travel was announced for people of the German Democratic Republic. At midnight, the East German government allowed gates along the Wall to be opened after hundreds of people converged on crossing points. In the following weeks, many people then took to the wall with hammers and chisels, dismantling it piece by piece. The official demolition of the Berlin wall began on 13 June 1990, and was undertaken by former East German border guards overseeing contractors, under a democratically elected government.
A lot, capital city of Germany and historic European city. A lot of it destroyed during ww2 and divided from then till 1990, very interesting city to visit. Checkpoint Charlie, the Berlin Wall remains, memorials and several fascinating museums near the city centre are main attractions. East Berlin remains culturally separate from the West to this day.

November 9, 1989 was the day the wall was knocked down,
Berliners were over joyed when the Berlin Wall came down. The news portrayed people from both sides climbing and tearing down the wall all happy and partying. It was a great day for all Berliners.
The fall of the Berlin Wall began on November 9, 1989 marking the start of the German Reunificaion. It was officially started being dismantled June 13 1990 and concluded November 1991. I think it needs saying the Berlin wall was knocked down as a result of the unification of Germany: This came about because Russia decided the Warsaw Pact countries were beyond its economic necessity.

Yes it was a news story until the day it fell.
If you are talking about the Berlin Blockade it came long before the Berlin wall was built. The famous Berlin Blockade began in June 1948 and didn't end until May 1949. The Berlin Blockade was the result of the Soviets blocking all roads between West Berlin and West Germany, meaning there was no supply of food to West Berlin. This led to the Berlin Airlift where the western powers dropped food parcels into West Berlin. The Berlin Wall wasn't built until 1961,due to the fact that many East Berliners were escaping to West Berlin due to the better living conditions in the west. Although this had been going on for years. In the day before the wall was erected 5000 people fled East Berlin. The first wire version of the wall was built overnight and separated east and West Berlin for 29 years until it was torn down in 1989. I hope this helps.
Mikhail Gorbachev resigned Christmas day, 1991 following the Fall of the Berlin Wall and he resigned in order to bring a democratic reform to Russia. He was said to end the Cold War."Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" -Ronald Reagan
