The Nazi-Soviet Pact, more formally known as the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact after the officials who negotiated it, might have allowed the Nazis and the Soviets to divide Europe between them and to actually defeat the Anglo-French-American alliance, but that didn't happen, because the Nazis stupidly decided to violate the pact and attack the Soviet Union even while they were still fighting on the western front against England. It was an error of over-confidence, and it cost them the war. So in the end, the impact of this treaty was not very great. Treaties only matter if their signatories respect them.
The Nazi-Soviet pact was signed by the foreign ministers of Germany and USSR (Ribbentrop and Molotov):
- The soviets and the germans agreed not to fight each other if a war broke out
- Both USSR and germany secretly agreed to split Poland in the event of a war in Europe
- Hitler gave Stalin a free hand of the Baltic states of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.
