Marco Polo's famous novel is called The Travels of Marco Polo, a partially non-fiction work which described his experiences and observations in China, India and Japan. This particular book is known by other names. Livre des merveilles du monde (Book of the Marvels of the World), Divisament dou monde (Discoveries of the World), Il Millione (The Million), and Oriente Polano are other common titles for this work.

While Marco Polo was also an influential cartographer in Europe, his only book was his The Travels of Marco Polo.

Note: While Marco Polo may have dictated this novel, he did not truly write it as others copied down the tales he told.

The book "The Travels of Marco Polo the Venetian" is an English translation from 1818 and 1854, which includes material from Polo's text "Il Millione" (The Million, 1298).

Polo related his experiences travelling the trade routes to the Far East with his father and uncle in the late 13th Century. They twice visited the ruler Kublai Khan in China, and brought greeting from him to the Vatican. On the second trip, they stayed at Khan's insistence nearly 17 years (1274-1291). Polo's recounting of the trips include sections on the Middle East, China, Japan and Southeast Asia, and eastern Africa. Eventually Polo's "Silk Road" to the East was mostly taken over by sailing routes.

Unfortunately, all of the original hand-copied manuscripts from Polo's time have been lost, and discrepancies exist between the existing translations.
