The 1998 NPR auto has (approx) 1st 3.5 to 1, 2nd 1.5 to 1, 3rd 1 to 1 O/D 0.75 to 1 and reverse is 2.7 to 1. (Note the big jump from 1st to 2nd). These ratios are 'supplemented' by torque conversion to effectively produce 'gears' around these ranges. However, the Isuzu Australia website has technical specs on their models; including an historical archive where you can down load specs from earlier models. This site will give you the exact ratios (I have rounded) on autos and manuals. The site will also give specs on all N series including engine out puts axle specs dimensions etc. Worth a look; Google Isuzu Australia and click on Website. Go to truck specs and scroll down to Historical data. Select year of truck and tick disclaimer. N series for the last 20 years will list (NPR/NQR/NKR etc) together with 200/250auto/300 etc. Your cab chassis truck will up as basic line drawing with dimensions, fluids, axles, engines output etc. It is more comprehensive than an owner's manual but less so than a workshop manual. It's downloadable/printable making it handy for your future reference.

Why is gear ratio also called velocity ratio?

The gear ratio of a train, also known as its speed ratio, is the ratio of the angular velocity of the input gear to the velocity of the output gear. The gear ratio is very important when it comes to physics.

What is the gear ratio on a 1980 ford f100 4.9L?

There are different options for gear ratios , check the tag at the differential . If the tag is missing you can determine the ratio by dividing the number of teeth on the crown gear by the number of teeth on the pinion gear. Some crown gears have the ratio stamped on them.

What is the relationship between driven gear and drive gear?

The ratio is the driven gear divided by the driver gear. This determines the gear ratio.

Why do gears have a gear ratio?

When one gear is used to drive another, the number of teeth on each gear will factor into the ratio. Even if the number is the same it will have a 1 to 1 ratio. In a rear axle, for example, a common ratio is 41 teeth on the ring gear (driven gear) and 11 teeth on the pinion gear (drive gear). 41/11 is 3.727272 or commonly called a 3.73 to 1 ratio. It take 3.73 turns of the drive gear to get one turn of the driven gear. If you are interested, the different ratios provide different combinations of speed and power. Thus a large gear pulling a smaller one gives speed while a smaller gear pulling a larger one gives power.
