This is an irrational question one which furthers dangerous stereotypes, this is because the definition of Islam is -the civilization of Muslims collectively which is governed by the Muslim religion.

Therefore it would become unfair to label Islam as racist or not racist. I have come across really racist degenerates (I mean people) who are Muslim, and I have come across non racist Muslim people.

Besides people fail to see that Islam is broken up into subcultures some who hold irrational extremist beliefs and others who don't. You just can't ask that question because it eliminates individualism

God says in the Quran:

"Mankind! We created you from a male and female, and made you into peoples and tribes so that you might come to know each other. The noblest among you in God's sight is that one of you who best performs his duty. God is All-Knowing, All-Aware." (The Qur'an , 49:13)

The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said in his final sermon:

"O people! Remember that your Lord is One. An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab, nor a non-Arab any superiority over an Arab, and a black has no superiority over white, nor a white any superiority over black, except by piety and good action. Indeed the best among you is the one with the best character."

Islam forbids racism. It teaches that what matters is the character and integrity of a person, not his or her skin color.

The answer below left by the previous poster is actually a racist one. Quite ironic that a racist is pointing the finger at someone else and trying to call them racist.

Islam considers racism as one of the great sins. The story goes that Satan is a different being to humans. Humans were created to be more devout than Satan's kind.

After creating Adam, God ordered Satan to bow before Adam. Satan refused citing that he was stronger and more powerful than humans and he would not kneel before an inferior creature.

Satan was banished, and promised that he would prove to God that humans are no better than Satans kind, and this began his lifelong quest to tempt humans into evil.

It is said that to be a racist, it is to be like Satan. Ultimately we are all the same except for the pigment in our skin.

people stereotype Islam as suicide bombers and stuff so modt people don't lik e Islam for this reason. This is also thought as up in Birmingham where a friend live they have said if any one goes out after 8:30 they will beat them to death so tha is why i think the attitude of Islam towards racism

This is a very difficult question to answer given the wide variety of Muslim opinions on the matter and the amount of doublethink present in many Muslim opinions.

1) Muslims Themselves: Muslims are consistently opposed to any discrimination or prejudice against Muslims for being Muslims. This refers to situations of massacres of Muslims such as what the Rohingya face and Kosovars used to face, to the informal discrimination that is common in Europe and the Americas.

2) Religious Minorities: Muslim-majority societies have discriminated against and have continued to discriminate against Non-Muslim members of their society. There are problems concerning treatment of Christians, Jews, Baha'i, Druze, and Yazidi throughout the Middle East. Iran has problems with the treatment of Zoroastrians. Pakistan and Bangladesh have problems concerning the treatment of what few Hindus remain.

As concerns the discrimination against Non-Muslims, the majority Muslims continue to refuse to listen to the claims of these minority religions that they are being discriminated against and that all they want is fair treatment under the law. They accuse these people of being Anti-Muslim and wishing to denigrate Islam without cause, even when nearly every Human Rights group agrees that the situation for these minorities is problematic or dire. Some Muslims have protested this treatment, but they have often been branded as traitors, secret Zionists, and non-Muslims. Therefore, it must be assumed that most Muslims support this type of discrimination.

Anti-Semitism is especially common in Muslim communities and many (but not all) Muslims believe that the Jews are eternal enemies of Muslims, are descended from apes and pigs, kill Muslims for enjoyment, and many other commonplace Anti-Semitic rhetoric. There are numerous rallies where Muslims declare their unending support to the eradication of the Jewish people and will occasionally praise Hitler's "achievements" in this regard. There are some center-line Muslims (in addition to more liberal Muslims) who oppose this like Yusuf Hamza and Tariq Ramadan, but polls among Muslim communities show deeply-ingrained Anti-Semitic attitudes and a lack of knowledge about actual Jewish customs, beliefs, and history.

3) Ethnic Minorities that are Muslims:Additionally, there is a large amount of discrimination against Mawali (Non-Arab Muslims) in countries with large Arab Muslim populations. Common examples include the treatment of the Kurds, the Circassians, the Darfurians in Sudan, the South Asian Immigrants to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, and the historical repression of Amazigh/Berber culture in North Africa.

There has been some change in the Middle East as concerns the Kurds and the Amazigh. Each group has begun to achieve partial autonomy in their countries. The South Asian Immigrants are not as well treated and discussion on their situation is stifled. The status of Circassians varies by country, with Jordan giving them many rights, but Turkey denying them a right to their unique culture. Darfurians are still under attack from government-sponsored militia. However, it seems that progress is being made to discuss the well-being of these people, mostly outside of the countries where the discrimination is taking place.

4) Women: Most Muslims oppose discrimination against women when it is phrased as such. However, they generally support laws and actions that are seen to be discriminatory towards women such as: daughters inheriting at half the rate of sons, women being equally liable for rape as men, women being dissuaded from getting an education, and men presumptively getting custody of the children in a divorce. Less commonly supported, but still legal in many Muslim-majority countries, are honor killings (where a female victim of rape or female participant in consensual premarital sex is killed by her family for "shaming them") and female genital mutilation (where the clitoris is removed in a very painful procedure).

5) Sexual Minorities: Homosexuals, Transsexuals, and nearly every other color of the "LGBT rainbow" are actively discriminated against and punished in Islamic societies. Almost every Muslim-majority nation has criminalized homosexual sex acts and nearly a third have instituted the death penalty for such occurrences.

The only three Muslim speakers who have attempted to moderate the Islamic approach towards gays are Irshad Manji, Tawfik Hamid, and Tarek Fatah and all three have been branded as "Anti-Islamic" and "Misguided" by most Muslims. There are many more "Conservative" Muslim Clerics who extol the virtues of butchering homosexuals and have large followings. This would show that most Muslims actively support Sexual Minority discrimination.

6) Apostates and Atheists: Those who leave Islam are subject to both legal death threats (in countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran) and extralegal death threats, primarily in their home communities. While most Muslims would argue that Apostates should not receive the death penalty, they support measures ostracizing them and making life more difficult for them. In Egypt, for example, it is illegal to change your religion from Islam to any other religion and since religion is on a person's ID card, this prevents a person's ID from reflecting their beliefs.

Atheists in general are ridiculed and ostracized. Atheism in Islamic communities is rare and where it does exist, its members often keep their opinions in the closet to prevent recriminations. Organizations that help out Atheists in Islamic communities, even in Western countries, are so afraid of such recriminations, that they do not keep membership lists and do not disclose meeting locations.

Islam religion is strictly against racism that is based on culture, religion, color, language, gender, or the like. This is demonstrated in many aspects of Islam teachings and morals as well Prophet Mohamed sayings and practices:

  • In the time of prophet and early era of Islam, the first Muslim who was announcing for each prayer (making Athaan) was Ethiopian as well as one of the very close companions to the prophet Mohamed was Persian (his name is Salman and he was slave and then freed in Islam).
  • Currently, there are Muslims of all world cultures, races, colors, languages.

Quran says (Meaning English Translation):
"... If Allah had willed, He would have made you one nation (one belief), but that may test you in what He has given you; so compete in good deeds; then God will inform you about that in which you used to differ"

(Quran, chapter 5, verse 48)

And:

" O mankind! We (God) have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you with God (Allah) is the pious. Verily, Allah (God) is All-Knowing and All-Aware"(Quran, Chapter 49, Verse 13)

The above two Quran verses show that:

  • Islam call is for all mankind, and not only for Muslims, to live in harmony and peace and cooperative way of living .
  • Islam is against discrimination based on religion, race, culture, color, ...etc. The most honorable of mankind with God is the pious. The pious is the one who have faith in God, do good deeds for the benefit of his society, and is thoughtful in God creations and glory.

On Racism in Islam
On the question of racism, e.g. hatred of people because of the color of their skin, Islam is actually incredibly progressive and decries racism. A number of Hadiths make it clear that the color of a person's skin is entirely irrelevant to their decency as a human being, especially Muhammad's farewell address wherein he said:

"O people, your Lord is one and your father Adam is one. There is no virtue of an Arab over a foreigner nor a foreigner over an Arab, and neither white skin over black skin nor black skin over white skin, except by righteousness. Have I not delivered the message?"

Problems
While racism is wholly against Islamic doctrine, there are two problems here:

1) Religious Discrimination: Islam does not discriminate on the basis of skin color, but it does discriminate quite strongly on religious affiliation. The Qur'an, Hadith, Sira, and Islamic Jurisprudence make clear that a Non-Muslims is deserving of worse treatment than Muslims are. Thankfully, many Muslims ignore these injunctions today, but that does not change their validity within the Islamic canon.

Please see these Related Questions:

2) Racism by Muslims: Even though Islamic doctrine thoroughly repudiates racism, many Muslims have expressed racist sentiments or behavior. Most commonly Islamic racism was against Africans, who are still often called 3abd (عبد) or slave by uneducated southern Egyptians, Arab Sudanese, and Arab Libyans. There is also a more recent racism against South Asians in the Gulf countries, where they are seen to be the functional equivalent of slaves by local Gulf Arabs, and against Chinese in Algeria and other African countries, primarily because they work harder and for less money than locals. Again, while this form of racism is common in some parts of the Islamic World, it comes from underlying cultural issues, not Islam.
