No. There is no illumination, speed or retained accesory power in the factory radio. It is accomplished with car's CANbus communication. To hookup illumination wire on 2006 VW Jetta, tap into white/black wire at the light switch. It dims your lights on your radio. You can also set up different color for day and night.

So in order for you to get your Instrument Panel lights working again you must splice the two wires together.In laymans terms, you have to connect the Dimmer wire [Brown (not striped)] and the Illumination wire [Grey (not striped)] together. If your problem was the same as mine then this should do the trick

that wire is for the radio dimmer. when you turn on your headlights the radio dims so your not blinded at night. Some aftermarket stereos have a place to hook this wire up and some don't.

Its EASY! just connect the (usually green) wire to the negative post on the coil. Hook up the power wires and the illumination wire and ground for the tach wire and ur done its easy!

ok. the first thing u do is unplug the ignition coil and find a red and black wire and just kinda skin it and touch it when the car is on to see any movement and the dimmer switch pull it out and find a green and blackwire hook the white wire up to that and test the lights you know turn the head lights on everything else is instructions when you buy the tach.

The illumination of the dash during the daytime is at full brightness, normal. When the head lamps and such are turned on the brightness of the dash illumination is overridden by the dimmer. Turn the dimmer up. Usually rotation of the headlight knob will do the trick. Now if you have an electronic dimmer then it may have failed and will require replacement. Obviously the illumination works so the issue is the night time configuration of the lighting through the dimmer.
