Two different terms:
1. Territory that describes Vietnam's actual geographic lands and waters.
2. Territory that describes Vietnam's lands or waters owned by Vietnam but exist outside Vietnam's actual country (geographic location).
Example for #2: The US owned (or owns or controls) the island of Guam in the Pacific Ocean. Guam exists outside of the US North American continent and is NOT a state (like Hawaii); so it is US Territory.
Most people are unaware if Vietnam possesses any territories outside of it's national borders.
