Distinctive means set apart or different. For example, if you said that some one had very distinctive eyes, it could mean that they were an uncommon color, shape or size. Usually when you say that something is distinctive, you are implying that you would be able to recognize it with ease. For instance, if the person with distinctive eyes was a stranger, you might recognize them again because of their eyes.
