A Gymkhanna is a fun horse show. Gymkhannas often have events such as barrel racing, pole bending, key hole, trail course, flag race, and any combination of other competitive events that equestrians can compete against each other, in a fun environment. Sometimes, riding clubs will hold gymkhannas regularly for their club members. Normally, ribbons are given to winners in places first through third, and sometimes through sixth. The money generated from the gymkhannas goes towards funding club events, or special purposes.

During the holidays, other non traditional events are incorporated into the games. At Easter, you might find Easter baskets placed on barrels in a row in the arena where the rider has to run from one barrel to another, holding a basket, and pick an egg out of each basket and then run back to start on horseback. Independence Day might include a station that you race your horse to, dismount, eat a piece of watermelon, and mount and race back to start. Variations of events are as creative as the people that invent them.
