Hypertrophy (from Greek ὑπέρ "excess" + τροφή "nourishment") is the increase in the volume of an organ or tissue due to the enlargement of its component cells. It should be distinguished from hyperplasia, in which the cells remain approximately the same size but increase in number. Although hypertrophy and hyperplasia are two distinct processes, they frequently occur together, such as in the case of the hormonally-induced proliferation and enlargement of the cells of the uterus during pregnancy.

Does everyone get bumps when getting a cartilage piercing?

No, not everyone gets it. Usually, its hypertropic scarring, which is treatable. Its usually caused by friction from poor fitting jewelry or constantly touching/hitting the piercing.

Can you change your nose piercing if you have a hypertropic reaction?

Yes you can. Its actually recommended if you think that's the cause for the ht scarring. If the jewelry is too tight or if its a ring and it keeps getting hit, it could cause the ht scarring. I suggest tht you go to your piercing and them change it out to whatever works best for you.

I've had my industrial for 2 and a half months and i have noticed a small bump beside the pierced hole and it doesn't hurt and i don't sleep on my ear?

It is probably hypertropic scarring. Go out and buy some tea tree oil at walmart or just about any drugstore. After you clean your ear, just dab a bit of the oil on the bump and leave it. Do that once or twice a day until th bump goes away. The oil will dry out the bump and it'll flake off in layers.
