Undeniably, British Colonialism brought benefits both to those who were colonized as well as to the colonizers. Benefits for the former included an increase of goods available for purchase and increase of markets for goods to be sold, along with very new employment opportunities given the presence of colonial personnel. Benefits for the former included control of wealth-sources, availability of new trading goods, access to inexpensive labor, and, thus, increased economic profit.
Diseases, largely smallpox, brought by Europeans caused millions of deaths among the native Americans who had no resistance to these foreign diseases.
Colonialism has caused immense harm, historically; however, it is also not without benefits. When a more technologically advanced culture colonizes a less technologically advanced culture, there will be a certain amount of transfer of information. The colonized culture does learn from their colonizer. It's educational, although the education does tend to come at a very high cost.
