Does the gauge that tells you if your engine is running hot have a fuse or sensor?

Your engine coolant temperature gauge has a sensor ( there is also a engine coolant temperature sensor that is used for the computer / PCM )

What does the temperature gauge on a car do?

Most vehicles use a temperature sensor and gauge that monitor the engine's coolant temperature. The gauge can either reflect the actual engine temperature (with a needle or a digital reading), or it could display a generalized temperature that informs the operator when the engine is at operating temperature or is dangerously hot. Many older vehicles (made before 1980) also used an engine block temperature sensor. The block sensor was usually impeded in the block and connected a warning light that illuminated when temperatures exceeded a certain amount. Most passenger vehicles did not use a gauge with this type of sensor. Some vehicles, especially those used for commercial and industrial purposes, use an oil temperature sensor. It works very much the same as a coolant sensor and can be placed in the engine, transmission, or both depending on the need. It would be more common for a warning light to be connected to this type of sensor, but there are aftermarket gauges that reflect accurate oil temperature readings.

Where is the temperature sensor Chevy Malibu?

That depends on if you are referring to the coolant temp sensor, ambient air temp sensor, 4 cyl, or 6 cyl. The coolant temperature sensor is used mainly for engine / coolant cooling, and A/C. The ambient sensor is used on some model years for A/C operation. Ambient locations normally in front of the A/C condensor. The condensor is the radiator looking component in front of the radiator. Coolant sensor vary by year and engine size. TechJK -------------------------

What is the normal temperature gauge reading for a 1999 Cadillac Catera?

The 1999 Cadillac normal coolant temperature gauge reading should be 180 degrees. A 195 degrees thermostat could be used, causing the temperature gauge to read 195.

1990 Ford Ranger temperature gauge not working?

Could be temp sensor or gauge is defectiveIf your engine light is on chances are you have a defective thermal sensor. It's location is found on the bottom side of intake on 90 ford rangers w/ 2.3l. If new sensor doesn't do the trick pull the instrument cluster and check plug connector by squeezing side release tabs. look to make sure copper connectors have no oxidization.OK. so after some more research it turns out that there is a coolant temperature sensor as well as a coolant temperature sending unit. The sending unit is used for the gauge, the sensor used for the cooling fans. The sending unit for the 2.3L is on the left rear of engine, above the oil filter. For the 2.9L it is on the intake manifold, below the throttle body.

Where is Chevy venture thermostat reading sensor located?

The sensor used for displaying the engine coolant temperature on the gauge in the dash is located near the thermostat housing. I have included a link that has pictures that show its location. Just click on the pictures to enlarge them. When you do, you can see the wires that go to the sensor. Good Luck, Greg

Location of 1991 camaro CTS coolant temperature sensor please?

Tech research answer I don't undertand location of: Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS) - Determines the temperature of engine coolant via direct insertion with a thermistor, usually threaded into a coolant passage in the intake manifold. This data is then used to determine the point at which the engine is warmed and a leaner mixture may be used by the fuel/air system in an open loop fashion prior to oxygen sensor warm-up. Coolant temperature is also used during engine cranking to set the starting AF ratio to a value between 2:1 and 12:1

How do the engine coolant sending unit and the coolant temperature sensor work together?

The sending unit is only to control the temperiture warning light/gauge on your dash. If you are referring to the sending unit in your overflow tank it just turns your low coolant light on. The temperiture sensor is used to feed engine temperiture data into the computer, to caculate how much fuel the engine will get during cold start up etc. It is simply input data for the computer.

What does the engine coolant temperature sensor do?

It tells the computer the temperature of the engine. That info is used for fuel and timing control, for activating the radiator fan, the gauges in the dash, etc

Does the ECM and the fan work off the same coolant sensor on a 92 grand am 3300?

I could be completely wrong, but I think they share the same sensor. If there's two sensors for the coolant, one usually goes to a gauge and the other is used by the computer, which in turn controls the fan activation and speed.

Where is the choke located on 1998 Ford Windstar?

There is NOT a choke on any fuel injected engine. The coolant temperature sensor does the job of what used to be the choke. When the coolant in the engine is cold, the coolant temperature sensor tells the engine control module and it determines how rich or lean to make the engine run. You can use a scanner to see if it and all the other sensors are doing the job they are meant to perform.

Where is the water temperature sensor located on a Mazda B4000 truck?

There are two engine coolant temperature sensors. One drives the gauge or warning light on the instrument panel generally referred to as the sending unit. The other is used by the computer to determine engine coolant temperature and adjust the fuel/air mixture accordingly; this is generally referred to as the sensor. The two are easily distinguished, since the sending unit for the temperature guage has only one wire going to it, while the unit that provides information to the computer has two or three wires to it. On V6 engines, the sending unit for the gauge is located on the front lower part of the intake manifold, near the thermostat housing. - Mazda Pickups Service Manual
