Berlin was divided into four sections after WW2, and occupied by military elements of the United States, Britain, France, and the Soviet Union. As a result of the Cold war between the USSR and the West, the Soviet zone became East Berlin and the other three zones became West Berlin. The capital of West Germany was in Bonn. The city of West Berlin remained an exclave within Soviet-controlled East Germany until reunification of the country in 1990, after which the reunified Berlin again became the capital of Germany.
The city reunited and the Berlin wall was torn down.

==============

The reunification happened in 1989, long after the end of World War II. The end of the war in 1945 is when the city was first divided up. The city was split up into sectors under the jurisdiction of the Soviet Union, the United States, France, and Great Britain. In the following years, the U.S., French, and U.K. sectors essentially became one area, West Berlin, while the Soviets ran East Berlin. The Soviets built the wall to keep Germans in the East from going over to the West.

The US Air Force initiated the "Berlin Airlift", flying in necessities such as food, etc, when the Russians (who were ceded the area in which Berlin was contained) blockaded all highways/roads into the city from the other sectors of Germany, controlled by England, France, and the U.S.A. When the Communists realized that they would never be able to incorporate all of Berlin into "East Germany" (the Russian sector), they relaxed their ground blockade and again allowed necessities to flow by highway into the city. The confrontation could have started WWIII, had the commuists not backed down.

It depends entirely on which war is being referred to. Berlin has featured quite heavily in a number of wars, especially the Thirty Years War, the Napoleonic Wars, World War II, and the Cold War. Please resubmit this question clarifying which war is being asked about.

The Berlin Wall was torn down due to political changes in Europe; Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev lost his control by 1990, and the Soviet Union fell apart. Many people were affected by the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. The East Germans could now be free to travel west and be free. Most people were glad that the unjust acts of the Soviets was finally over. Mrs. Loiselle's first reaction was "It's about time" and "We won the Cold War", she had mixed emotions when she first found out.
