The first permanent white settlement in Oregon was at Fort Astoria in 1811. The Mormons arrived in Utah in 1847, 36 years later.

James K. Polk was president when the Mormons first settled Utah in 1847. Grover Cleveland was president in 1896 when it became a state,
Nothing happened to the Mormons, they are still surviving and thriving as a 14 million member worldwide church. Brigham Young was their second leader, he moved Church headquarters to Utah in 1847, and it has been located there ever since.

About 2000 came to Utah in 1847 with Brigham Young.Entry: 1847: Aug. "Thurs. 26 - '...Between six and seven hundred wagons, with about two thousand souls enter the valley that fall." (LDS Church Chronology 1805-1914, page 34)But the Mormons kept coming and about 70,000 Mormons came to Salt Lake City between 1847 and 1867.

In 1847, a large group of Mormon Pioneers travelled from their winter quarters in Nebraska to Salt Lake City Utah. Please note this was not ALL the Mormons, but the majority of the leadership and a large group of those living in the United States at the time.
Brigham Young lead the first group of Mormon Pioneers to Utah Territory (which was then Mexico) in 1847.
Korey Colyar in Utah knows that the Mormon Pioneeds arrived in the Salt Lake Valley for the first time on July 24, 1847. It is a state holiday with the 5th largest parade in the country. There are also massive parties and fireworks displays for all to see.

The federal government under President Polk refused to protect the Mormons and Mobs & terrorist's burned their homes and forced them to flee for their lives from the state of Illinois. Just because the Mormons had some different religious beliefs than their Christian neighbors.
