Well this is my understanding.
Haunting in Connecticut the movie is nothing more then that a movie. It is not based on true events, and never was based on True Events.
According to something else I read about Carmen Snedeker, now Carmen Reed, she is now divorced from Al Snedeker, but Al was an alcoholic and Carmen was involved in illegal or trafficking some illegal lottery tickets or something to make a living.
That many of the stories of the problems they had there was the boy and his medications and the father and his abusiveness to the family because of the Alcoholism.
The kids are now grown and Ms. Reed has started a book of her own and now she is a Spiritual Advisor!
Anyways here is some links for you to look over and read.
The whole thing was hoaxed including the book. The author never got to meet the family and/or the boy and never even knew if the boy had cancer. He never saw any of the events and when he went over Lorraine and Ed Warren's notes and such on the house and the happenings they were so jumbled and mixed up that Ed Warren told him this;
He told me not to worry, that the
family
was 'crazy.' I was shocked. He said, 'All the people who come to us
are
crazy. You think *sane* people would come to us?' He knew I'd
written a
lot
of Horror novels prior to that, so he told me to just make the story
up
using
whatever details I could incorporate into the book, and make it scary."

So the author did do that only because he needed the money and he needed the money badly this was one of his low points in his writing career so before you go spending 100's of dollars on the book.. read about it first in many places that is listed on the net.
Here are some links on the story, the book and Carmen Reed once Carmen Snedeker.

Also to let you know the new owners have had no problems or issues and the house was never a funeral home.
And the new owners are suffering from this movie and other publicity with looky loos and every thing else coming to their doors and windows asking if the place is haunted and such.. scaring their children now are these people then the house!
They have had to put a fence up and no trespassing signs and they have had to call out the Police Department a few times as well.
As they said they don't mind the people who take pictures but they do mind the invasion of strangers to their home.
They have thought of charging and giving tours of the house so that they can stop the curiousity but they are not sure of this yet.

all i know is that it was on "a haunting" which is a cool series i watch
