Good eggs eaten raw don't do anything bad to a person but if the egg is old or from a sick chicken, you could get salmonella. A healthy egg from a cage-free, no hormones, no antibiotics, chicken can usually be eaten raw without any problem at all. The scare comes from problems encountered with people who ate soft-boiled or not-quite-cooked eggs that were old or from less-than-ideal environments. Many restaurants now refuse to serve soft-boiled eggs which is a shame. A beautiful soft-boiled egg in the morning with toast points and a little Tabasco is a treat not to be missed...just make sure the egg is very fresh and comes from healthy, happy chickens.
