It is not essential but can be done for safety. Do not ever give cats products not meant for them like dog or human medication unless prescribed by a proper vet because these can be fatal to cats. However, this is not a good thing to try, even with only one pill; there are medicines, largely harmless to humans, that kill cats, so it is possible that a medicine specific to cats could harm humans.
