It has no particular significance of which I'm aware.

Arctic Ocean, Canada, the Pacific Ocean, and Antarctica, and doesn't appear to have

any more unique significance than 140° east longitude has.

None other than the "48th Meridian" of longitude. It's so important that they created

two of them ... one at 48° East longitude and the other at 48° West longitude.
