What is making your Briggs and Stratton 500 run rough the oil was overfilled so I poured off the excess oil cleaned the spark plug and airi it still idles in an up and down breathing manner?

Erratic idling, surging, and the "up and down breathing" are usually caused by a dirty or clogged air filter.
