The firing order should be 1-5-3-6-2-4.
for all 258 CID engines the firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4. Cylinder one is the front by the radiator and on the distibutor cap, plug one wire should go to the socket closest to the passenger fender, then the rotation is clockwise as viewed from the top.
1-5-3-6-2-4 rotor turns clockwise.

I remember the mid 70's Jeep had a 6 cylinder 258
Both the 258 and the 4.0 are the same size externally.
