Sounds like the throtle position sensor is bad. Have it checked on a computer at a garage. The parts store computers cannot give good codes to narrow it down.

Ive had the instrument cluster replaced, so dont go and do that, because your car will still do the same thing. Your BCM (Body Control Module) may need to be replaced, or it is just a bad wiring. Why wont your ford excursion idle?
The idle control valve needs to be replaced. It's mounted behind the throttle body. Just replaced mine to fix same problem. Cost $65.00 at auto parts store.
