The typical student working towards a bachelor degree is between the ages of 18 and 25.Many live on campus and most do not work traditional Monday to Friday 9-to-5 jobs. For most undergraduate programs it is nearly impossible to work a traditional full-time job while in attendance, and for “adult learners,” as these traditional undergraduate programs label them, attending class with students nearly half their age is uncomfortable. For non-traditional prospective students who are not the typical age of a student earning a bachelor degree and for those who are employed full-time, an online bachelor degree as convenient alternative.

An online bachelor degree from an accredited program offers the same resume boost and same content knowledge that traditional programs offer. However, an online bachelor degree comes with the convenience and flexibility of working from home.Students communicate with one another and instructors via the internet through email, bulletin boards and chat rooms. This is an atmosphere that many prospective students who are already working professionals will welcome. Not only are many of us already accustomed to communicating with coworkers and friends alike through these methods, those who are not may use the experience as a hands-on method of developing computer and internet skills – skills that are necessary for the well-paid competitive positions that drive many students to seek a bachelor degree. Also, students who are unnerved by the bustling college campus environment will find an online bachelor degree to be an enriching experience closer to their comfort level.

University of Phoenix President Laura Palmer Noone has been quoted criticizing the “one-size-fits-all mentality” of higher education that online colleges are making pains to avoid.Noone charges that on traditional campuses “. . . if you want to get a degree, you must leave town, stop working, live in a dorm. But we are way past that.We have to be engaged in lifelong learning, especially of our society is to compete globally.”This global perspective on online colleges has enabled them to market themselves to a population of students unavailable to traditional colleges. Many working people, single parents, and those simply stretched thin by obligations once considered a bachelor degree to be out of the question. But online bachelor degree programs put higher education firmly within their grasp.

An online bachelor degree gives these prospective students a tool with which to surmount these obstacles.Time restrictions, transportation issues, and relocation troubles have been solved by online colleges that offer classes wherever students are so long as there is an internet connection.
