Well, theoretically it was just Vietnam and the Americans, although the Americans took over the job from the French who discovered pretty quickly that it was a war they wanted no part of. But, somebody was quietly backing the North Vietnamese, and that somebody was China.
North Vietnam fought alone (with the exception of Southern Vietnamese guerrillas called the Viet Cong); which was part of their "strategy"...gaining world sympathy (which worked by the way). The North was supported by Red China/USSR with war equipment (MiG-17, MiG-19, and MiG-21 jet fighters and PT76 and T54/55 medium tanks, missiles, etc.). Red China supplied all of the MiG-19 (J6 versions) and most of the MiG-17s. The Soviets supplied all of the MiG-21s.
US/Allied Forces: US, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Philippines, S. Korea, and S. Vietnam. Australia entered the war with their Centurion tanks, the only allied nation to supply their own armor.

Laos and Cambodia were both drawn into the Vietnam War because of atrocities the people of these two countries suffered under the hands of North Vietnam. South Vietnam and other countries were trying to keep the North Vietnamese army from spreading Communism in these countries.

North Vietnam and the United States. South Vietnam wasn't the main combatant, because they did NOT conduct the Air War over North Vietnam. The Vietnam War had three categories: US Navy-Riverine War; US Air Force-Air War; US Army/US Marines-Land War.
After the war, there was a reunification of Vietnam. So the answer is "One country".
