Could be many things, but my '05 LS8 has been back to the dealer 5 times now for this problem. Each time they replace a different ignition coil (there's one for each cylinder). the dealer says that since it's a warranty repair they won't spring for the whole set at once even though it would save all of us time and hassle.
could be a bad plug
When u ride gas isn't getting the engine as efficient as it should so there might be a clog in ur fuel line or the carborator might need cleaning
they have the same v-8 engine, although a Lincoln town car might be a little faster due to the more option on the engine.
None, it might cause oil to spill on your engine or inside of your hood, or a dash light might come on.
engine oil leak
Check the belts. The most common cause of squealing is a worn or loose belt on the front of the engine.
If the sputter dissipates when the engine gets warm then a portion of the exhaust manifold is not tight against the engine block and is letting exhaust gas escape until the metal heats up and expands, if no then you might have a break in the exhaust gasket. Nothing that will harm the car or keep you from passing a smog test but annoying for sure. In my case the last bolt on the end of the manifold broke for some reason and caused the same sputter, I ened up removing the bolt and replacing it and the sputter went away. Good luck
the engine the engine
you could check out the fuel injectors to male sure they are not clogged or geta fuel injector cleaner, if that doesn't help then check the spark plugs and timing. also a bad catalytic converter might be to blame.
It might cause the "check engine" light to come on.
could be the timing belt
A 1990 Cutlass Ciera might hesitate and sputter when the gas pedal is depressed because of water in the fuel or because of damaged or dirty fuel injectors. You might also have an issue with the wiring or the distributor.
