First, this is another internet myth, based on some incorrect information. He did not "refuse," and it had nothing to do with his attitude about the flag. When then-Senator Obama was running for office, he didn't wear any lapel pins of any kind, nor did a number of other candidates. But his Republican opponents began saying the lack of a flag pin on Mr. Obama's lapel meant he was unpatriotic, a charge repeated on conservative talk radio as well. For a short time, he ignored the charges because he felt they were just politically motivated, but gradually, as more candidates began to wear flag lapel pins, and as his opponents kept questioning his patriotism, he decided it was best to go along with wearing a flag pin, so that it would not be a distraction in the campaign.

No, this is an internet myth, spread largely by his political opponents. For many years (as historical photos will show), a number of politicians did not wear a flag pin. Mr. Obama did not "refuse"-- it just was not the common custom. But after 9/11, more politicians began to wear them, and those who did not were called "unpatriotic." Rather than argue about it, Mr. Obama began to wear one during the 2008 election, since it seemed to be something many people now expected.

He only gave one reason: it was not a common custom for politicians to wear flag pins. In fact, it was not until after 9/11 when flag pins became more common, and even then, the custom grew slowly, and mainly among conservative Republicans. So, he was one of many politicians from both parties who did not wear one. But when some of his political opponents tried to paint him as unpatriotic for not wearing a flag pin, he ultimately decided to wear one, and in fact, today a majority of American male politicians seem to follow this custom.

He wears a US flag lapel pin. Please note that lapel pins do not make one more or less patriotic.

What is President Obama's opinion on flag pins- he didn't wear one when he first became president?

Not true. That is another of those urban myths, often spread by people who are political opponents of the president. The reality is that many people did not wear flag pins until after 9/11. At that point, some politicians began to wear them now and then, as a visible symbol of their love for America. Gradually, patriotic attitudes (and conformity) took over, and wearing a flag pin was no longer optional-- it began to be expected; and more politicians began to wear them, because their opponents would criticize their alleged lack of patriotism if they did not wear such a pin. Mr. Obama was one of many politicians from both parties who had not worn a flag pin every day, but as wearing them became the new norm in politics, he began to wear one too. You can absolutely see photos of him from 2008 when he is wearing a flag pin on his lapel.

Why does Obama not display the US flag during speeches?

This question has a false premise. The U.S. flag frequently features in the background when President Obama makes speeches. The most recent State Of The Union address is one example.

People in the US of America?

YES! They exist! They have a new president named Barack obama! Their flag has 50 stars!

Why was the rattlesnake never used as an emblem?

The Tea Party and the military were bonded by this flag so President Barack Obama turned aside the flag to break the bond. Obama has no power to "break the bond" of the Gadsden Flag, although some leftist organizations have tried, and this flag is a part of our history and is not offensive to Americans that love America.

There is a picture of Obama not pledging alligance to the flag?

First, the question is based on a myth. There are some anti-Obama websites that began circa 2008 to spread the false story that Mr. Obama was a "secret Muslim" who "hated America" and did not respect the flag. President Obama is a Christian, does not hate America, and all reports that he disrespected the flag are partisan nonsense. There are several older pictures of Mr. Obama not placing his hand over his heart, but the pictures have nothing to do with the flag-- they are pictures of him during the playing of the National Anthem. It is only recently (since 9/11/2001) that people began placing hand over heart during the playing of the anthem, but it was never required. So, the short answer is "No, there is not any picture of President Obama refusing to salute the flag," unless such a picture has been faked by his political enemies.

What is the new flag that Obama want?

He does not want any new flag. This is an internet myth, based on some campaign items the president's team was selling. It is very common for candidates to use a flag (with the candidate's name and logo) on shirts or coffee mugs. The Obama campaign sold these items to supporters, as other presidents have also done. But Mr. Obama has no intention of changing the American flag, which is a symbol of our nation and does not belong to any one candidate.
