Polytheistic religions are those that have several, or many, Gods and deities as oppose to just one. Hinduism is a polytheistic religion, because there are many Hindu Gods; on the other hand, Christianity and Islam are MONOTHEISTIC, because they have just one God with one main prophet (this being Jesus in Christianity, and Mohammed in Islam). The old Greek, Roman and Celtic religions were Polytheistic, and so were the religions of the Incas.

Depends upon whom you ask. For those of us who believe in One God, the significance of polytheism is that it is a terrible departure from the truth. For example, the ancient Romans and Greeks ascribed all manner of licentios behavior to their pantheon, and proceeded to use their mythology as an excuse to behave accordingly.

Is the biblical god and Islams god the same?

In accordance with Islam, the Jews and the Christians are the people of the book. That is they were also sent down upon revelations just like in Islam to the Last Prophet. Excluding the Trinity from Christianity because that ends up in Polythiesm, yes the Islamic and the Christian God is the same as claimed by the Holy Quran.

Why can monotheism replace polytheism?

monotheism replaced poltheism because as comunication and transport increased varrious tribes and cultures came in to contact . this destroyed polythiesm because people had originaly thought that seprate gods ruled supreate places and seprate things this was easy to belive before roads ect because people said in one place and did not understand othere people or places only once people could get around could they began to see the world as a sinle entity this single enity theirfore should be ruled by one god .
