Shi'a Islam is the state religion of Iran, and the main religion practised in Tehran. Other religions present but monitored are the Bahá'í faith, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Zoroastrianism.

The Islamic republic of Iran's state religion is, as the name suggests, Islam, Shia Islam to be more precise.

about 98% of the people in Iran are actually Islamic. 93% of these people are Shiites. the other 7% are Sunnites. In the very north-west of Iran, there is a significant Kurdish presence, this is where most of the Sunnites live.

the other 2% are a wide variety of religious groups including Hundus, Jews and Christians.

The religion with the wide majority is Islam (around 99.5% of the population are Muslims as published by Pew Forum in October 2009) . Other religions with very small minorities are Judaism and Christianity.
