The Tudors were the ruling family during the English Reformation. Henry VIII broke with the church to divorce Catherine of Aragon and marry Anne Boleyn. His son, Edward VI, took the state further into the Protestant camp, but his half sister Queen Mary I (Bloody Mary) attempted to reverse the Reformation. Then after her death, her half sister, Queen Elizabeth I, reversed Mary's reversal and restored Protestantism as the state religion in the form of the Church of England, also called the Anglican Church, and, in America, the Episcopal Church.
