If you have a 1998 Ford Explorer ( XLT trim )
You could have a 4.0 liter Single Over Head Cam ( SOHC ) V6 engine or a
5.0 liter V8 engine ( which is an Over Head Valve / pushrod design engine )

The oil pan is bolted to the bottom of the engine
On a 1998 Ford Explorer XLT For the 4.0 litre Single Over Head Cam , V6 , and the 5.0 litre V8 ( bank 2 is the drivers side of the engine )
The Ford 4.0 liter OHV , V6 engine has ( 1 ) timing chain ( but the 1998 Ford Explorer XLT model , if it has the 4.0 liter V6 engine , would have the SOHC engine which has ( 3 ) timing chains )
The preferred oil is 5 W - 30
On the right rear of the engine by the throttle body.
