it effects them beacause its cold and they could freeze and die> their bodies are at average temp but if its too cold, their bodies could freeze
Mine have survived temperatures of -30C ( -22F ). Dry shelter is important. If the bird is alone that temp may be too low and things will freeze. Wattle and comb freeze first, feet are next unless the bird stays in the straw hunkered down. The addition of a single 100 watt light bulb on an extension cord would make a big difference.
If you are running unit hard to cool building, then the probable cause is it is working too hard. A residential unit is designed to maintain a set temp. if there is too much difference between inside temp and temp desired the unit will work too hard to " catch up ". solution, turn off ac unit, remove ice build up ( you can use a garden hose ) then set thermostat to 3-4 degrees below indoor temp. Once it has lowered temp, keep going in 3-4 degree increments until temp desired is reached.
No, the water is moving too fast for it to freeze.
high for temp 5 mins
Yes, fresh water, especially if it is not fast moving, will freeze. The Polar ice caps show that sea water freezes too.
a magnet is a solid so you don't freeze it
Too low
Yes but not too long
