or Timing is off. This is known as dieseling. The car runs off combustion and burned gases still in the cylinder even if the ignition is off. Make sure marks are lined up on the camshafts and crankshaft. mostly likely have to remove the valve cover to check timing. Even though its a chain timing can still skip a mark. Another thing to do is make sure the piston is on top dead center and the dist. is firing on the number 1 cylinder.also try Removing the spark plug on number 1 and have someone turn it over as you watch for a spark.
A bad battery terminal(s) connection, bad ground, bad ignition switch, bad starter.
Chiltons Mazda trucks manual has the picture and explanation.
Had that same problem on a 96 Mazda Millenia, after checking alot of wiring for shorts, I went to the fuse box under the hood and pulled it apart checking the wiring underneath. Found problem with the BTN fuse wiring. So I pulled the BTN fuse and problem solved. Been trying to find out what exactly the BTN fuse is for but haven't had any luck. Hope this will help--Good Luck!
Carburators will flood only when the needle/seat is faulty. When the bowl is full, the float is supposed to rise and shut off the fuel. If that's not happening fix the carburator.
Not to be smart but it is where you insert the key to start the vehicle!!!!!.If you have issues with the key cylinder not working properly like dome light, door buzzer or radio not coming on or staying on with the truck running you need to replace the ignition. It will cost on average 130.00 from auto zone or advance auto parts and not hard to replace. Not really sure what you want to know exactly but, figure the issue is one the items listed staying on or not coming on with the vehicle running like the door buzzer, no radio ,or even the fan switch for the heat or air condition.

ignition problem
The ignition switch on a 1995 Mazda pickup is changed by partially removing the steering column to reveal the switch on the side of the column. It can then be unbolted from its mounts, the wires disconnected, and a new switch put in place.

2002 mazda ,,gauges are still working after taking out key..any ideas
immobilizer is in the key and pickup ring on the ignition lock
Dont know which one it is but my 98 milliena has the same problem and i am going to replace the ignition switch I'll let you know what happens Well i replaced the ingnition switch. My problem is now fixed. My car had other issues with this problem. My starter would engage when the car was not in gear. It would engage in p. and in n. If you have these issues it could very well be the switch. good luck
The ignition switch could be the problem. Jiggle the keys a bit. As the switch ages it doesn't "sit" quite right. I know this was the problem when some of my stuff wouldn't work, like wipers, heater fan or power windows. Switch might have to be replaced at some point.
You have to push the key & ignition switch in as you rotate it counterclockwise into the off position !!
