King Solomon was always King Solomon. His father was King David. God gave King Solomon the wisdom that he asked for, but no name change that I have ever read about.
Actually, King Solomon was called by another name. He was given the name Solomon at birth, but was called Jedidiah by the Prophet Nathan as shown in the verses below.
2 Samuel 12:24 And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him.
2 Samuel 12:25 And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.
Solomon. In those days people didn't have 'surnames' as we know them. He was the son of king David, but if he had been a normal man he would have been known as Solomon, son of David, or, in the Jewish manner, Solomon bar David. However, as he was a king, he is referred to by his first name only - just as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the UK is referred to by the title Queen Elizabeth.
