There were three candidates they were: Incumbent President William Howard Taft was re-nominated as the Republican candidate to run for re-election. After Former President Theodore Roosevelt failed to win the Republican Party nomination, he called his convention on his own and created the Progressive Party (nicknamed the "Bull Moose Party"). And Thomas Woodrow Wilson was nominated the Democratic candidate. Taft's running mate was Nicholas Murray Butler. Roosevelt's running mate was Hiram Warren Johnson and Wilson's running mate was Thomas Riley Marshall. In the results, William Howard Taft won 8 electoral votes, 2 states, 3,486,242 popular votes and 23.2% of the popular vote. Theodore Roosevelt won 88 electoral votes, 6 states, 4,122,721 popular votes and 27.4% of the popular vote. Thomas Woodrow Wilson is elected the 28th President with 435 electoral votes, 40 states, 6,296,284 popular votes and 41.8% of the popular vote.
