The renaissance officialy begun with the capture of Constantinople (which is now Istabul) by the Turks in 1453. It is the Renaissance of Antiquity (Middle-Ages being considered as a poor period) regarding arts, litterature ans sciences. This Renaissance first took place in Italy and had spreaded throughout Europe (the word Europe appeared at that time).

What is the general time period of renaissance?

The Renaissance began in Italy at about the beginning of the 14th century and lasted until the 17th century. We might use the dates 1300 to 1600, but there are many suggestions on how to date the time. I have seen beginning dates ranging from 1295 to 1400, and the dates for the end of the Renaissance seem even more difficult to pin down. It is probably good to note that the Middle Ages and the Renaissance overlap.

Was Dante part of the Renaissance?

He wrote, "The Divine Comedy". Most books were written in Latin at the time, so instead, he wrote it in Italian. By doing this, he almost single-handedly made Italian a literary language, really impacting the Renaissance. He was a towering figure of European literature.

A radical break between the middles ages and the early renaissance?

There was no clear break between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. In fact most historians probably would say there was a period of 50 to 150 years when they overlapped. The most commonly used date for the end of the Middle Ages is probably 1453. Other very commonly used dates are 1485 and 1492. There are historians who use dates as early as 1401 and as late as 1516. Some historians use 1300 as a date for the beginning of the Renaissance, as it is an approximate date for the writings of Dante and the artwork of Giotto di Bondone. Other historians date the beginning of the Renaissance to 1401. We might be tempted to say 1401 was the date when one ended, and the other began, but the event that caused that year to be used was the awarding of a contract to build bronze doors for the Baptistery of Florence Cathedral, which might seem rather trivial compared to the fall of Constantinople or Columbus's first voyage.

What are three scientific advances of the Renaissance?

Historians date the beginning of the Renaissance as happening as early as about 1300, or as late as about 1400, with at least one suggesting the date 1401. They date the end of the Middle Ages as early as about 1410 to as late as about 1517, with most agreeing on 1453, so the two periods overlap, and there are inventions that should be ascribed to both. The development of linear perspective is considered as important for the Renaissance, but whether it was a Renaissance development or a medieval development that helped bring the Renaissance about depends on the point of view. We might use it to date the beginning of the Renaissance if we prefer an early date.Printing with movable type was probably the most important invention of the Renaissance/Middle Ages, though this was invented in a part of Europe that was more medieval than Renaissance. What is Renaissance consort?

A consort is a group of instruments playing together. There are two types of consorts: a) whole consort, which consists of instruments all from the same family, and b) broken consort, which has instruments from more than one family. A renaissance consort would likely be a consort playing music from the renaissance period, with instruments that date back to that period.
