As of June 7, 2010, the Afghanistan is officially the longest war in American history. It began October 7, 2001 and has not ended yet. Before that, the Vietnam War was the longest war in American history. It lasted 103 months.
Others claim the Korean War is the longest because it never officially ended, we only signed a cease fire with them.

Second Opinion (different User):
The Korean war technically has not ended, making it the longest war, by far, in American History. It "ended" with an armistice, which is really just a truce. A truce means that all hostilities are stopped, but the war is not over. Afghanistan is the longest war if you only count months of active conflict. Technically the Korean war is ongoing though, making it the longest war in our history.
The second longest war in U.S. history to date was the War in Vietnam. In June 2010 Operation Enduring Freedom(The War In Afghanistan surpassed the Vietnam War for the longest in US History.
If you count the "Cold War" as a war then Operation Enduring Freedom would be the second longest war in US History.
The longest American war was the Vietnam War which lasted for 25 years (1945-1975). America entered the war in 1959.
[correction]
that's not even close to the right answer. There are alot of different angles but the US did not enter the war until 1965. Technically war can only be declared by Congress so the last official war was WWII.
No,
Really it was Korean war, which never officially ended. WE just signed a cease fire. we are still at war today.
The Korean war is the longest because it was never won by either side. There is just a "cease fire" for now. American bases are still at the border and are just keeping a look out just in case the north tries anything.
I'm not a 100% sure, but i would have said the Vietnam War, will check this out and get back to you.

America's longest war was against the American Indians (American Natives) which lasted from 1622 (Battle of the James River Settlement which had 347 colonists killed) to the Battle of Wounded Knee in 1890. America's longest war against another COUNTRY (Nation) was the Vietnam War. A war against the country of North Vietnam. America's longest war and bloodiest war would be the Vietnam War with over 58,000 US military men being killed there. America's bloodiest war would be the American Civil War (US Civil War) with nearly a million dead, but Americans were killing Americans...thus the high number.

To the best of my knowledge, the Hundred Years War is still regarded as the longest lasting war. It was fought between England and France in the 14th and 15th Centuries, and it actually lasted about 117 years.
there is none. the longest war in world war 1 is world war 1. it would have to be the longest battle. :)*
1. America's longest war (1622-1890) against the Red Man (American Indian/American Natives) cost the lives of approximately 3,000 White People (not all were military personnel). 2, Americas's longest war against another country (nation) 1955-1975 cost the United States over 58,000 military men.
The French and Indian War was the longest US war before 1850.The longest US war in history was the Vietnam War.
Brazil is the longest and biggest in South American
Defining a war in the traditional method, which the conflict was fought against another "COUNTRY" (nation) which had a set government and a national flag, the Vietnam War would be the longest (war against the nation of North Vietnam). Defining war in the broad sense, and not neccessarily fought against a country with a set government and a national flag, then the American Indian Wars (American Frontier Wars) would be America's longest war(s): roughly 1620 until 1890 (ending at the Battle of Wounded Knee).
Longest war-Indian Wars 1622-1890. Longest war (against another recognized country)-Vietnam War 1955-1975.
