The Memphis sanitation strike reached a high-point when Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech in support of civil rights for all. Since that time every request from the sanitation workers union has been met without any major argument. Today in Memphis, public sanitation workers make more per year than Memphis City School teachers.
