Environmentalists had been slowly infiltrating into the system (Government, Society, Schools, Business, Factories, etc. etc.) since lead shotgun pellets (called shot) were positively identified as Poison in 1919. By 1992, it became a federal law to use non-toxic projectiles in shotguns for water-fowl (Ducks, etc.) nation wide.

After that; came saving the trees, the whales, and the porpoise. The US Navy had been using Porpoise's in Vietnam to hunt for underwater-mines planted by enemy sappers. The environmentalists found out about it, and the US Navy then found themselves with two enemies to fight instead of just one: the communists in Vietnam and the environmentalists stateside.

Once the cold war was over, all bet's were off, and the flood gates opened: To name a FEW; Trees, Whales, Porpoise, Dirt Roads, Dirt Trails, Paved Roads, are all now protected. The Dirt Roads and Dirt Trails are protected under Environmental Law Suits that took effect in 2005. Currently Polar Bears and the the weather (global warming) are under-going Environmental viewing.
