The goal of Imperialism is to spread the laws, values, and economic influence of one country or group of countries (say Western Europe 1870-1950's over Africa) over a region. The economic advantages of imperialism are a mercantilist policy that favors the business class and voters of the imperialist country, which serves to get the politicians re-elected.
