97,98,99,00,01, i think your talking about the Cherokee (XJ) These motors (97-01) are considered the " Power Tech" engines, You may still be able to put a High Output in, but im not sure all the plugs would be the same. (92-96)
Actually, all Cherokee engines starting in 87 can be easily interchanged with the 2001 just depends on what your looking for. 87-90 was the standard 4.0l mostly carbed. in 91 when Chrysler took over they made changes to the intake, exhaust, throttle body, injectors and camshaft. this made it the 4.0l high output.
Small changes were made to the cylinder head for the 1995 model year. In 1996, the engine block was redesigned for greater strength. The new block had more webbing and a stud girdle for added rigidity of the crankshaft main bearings.
Engines installed in 1999 Grand Cherokees carried the PowerTech name, which had been used intermittently in prior years and on other Chrysler truck and SUV engines. The name was subsequently passed on to 4.0s in the other Jeep models that used the engine, the Cherokee and Wrangler.
The cylinder head was again changed for the 2000 model year to a lower flowing, more emissions-friendly design. This head was designated as "0331" in the casting number. These heads are prone to cracking and causing coolant to contaminate the oil, resulting in catastrophic engine failure. Also new for the 2000 model year, was the distributorless, coil on plug ignition system.
There are adaptor kits available from multiple manufacturers that will allow you to put many different engines in the XJ from GM to Ford. Of course this also includes multiple jeep engines. But if you are looking for direct drop in, chrysler had a bad habit of making multiple emissions versions of the same engine,,, so without your VIN to identify the engine it's hit and miss. This is why Most people who wish to replace an engine without a lot of headaches, purchase a "shortblock" on exchange, have the head reworked if within spec or order a specific head to match the year of the vehicle and put it together, instead of dealing with the headaches of a used engine and trying to mate up all the emissions and PCM connections.
dose a dodge Dakota 4.7motor fit my jeep grand Cherokee laredo4.7
No, they are not interchangeable.
No. They are not interchangeable.
No they are not the same transmissions they will not mount to the motors properly but you can buy adapter kits to make them fit, here is the problem you have to make sure that the wiring harnesses will interchange 97 - 01 it is a long shot in the dark.
I have a 1994 Grand Cherokee with a 1990 Cherokee 4.0 engine in it.. So i wuld have to say yes to your question.. ( i did not know it was from a 90 Cherokee until i had to buy some parts for oil change and none of the filters for a 94 would work.. :-)
