Failure in the electric control motor is the most common problem.
This may sound stupid but the reverse of how you got them out. If they are difficult to push in, the circlip at the gearbox end may not be slipping inside the housing which would require you to push the drive shaft in as hard as you can and push the circlip into the groove with a flathead screwdriver so that the driveshaft slips in.
