When did the Mormons live in New York?

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) have lived in New York since the church was founded there in 1830. While the church's headquarters were only there for one year, from 1830-1831, members of the church have always been found there.

There have been praciticing members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) in Mexico since 1847 (when what is now Utah was a part of Mexico).

Just a year later,in 1848, Utah became a part of the United States due to the Mexican Cession in the Mexican-AmericanWar.

In 1874, Brigham Young created the first official Mormon mission to Mexico, after which small groups of Mormon missionaries and local Mexican converts existed.

In about 1885, large groups of Mormons moved from the United States to Mexico to settle and formed what are called the "Mormon colonies". These towns were made up of mostly caucasian Mormons from America, rather than native Mexican members. These colonies thrived until 1912, when the Mexican Revolution prompted most of the Mormons to move back to the United States. Today, only two of the "Mormon Colonies" still exist: Colonia Juarez and Colonia Dublan. There are now 1.3 million baptized Mormons living in Mexico, meaning nearly 10% of all Mormons live in Mexico!

The original colonies were: Colonia Diaz, Colonia Juarez, Colonia Dublan, Nuevo Casas Grandes, Colonia Galeana, Colonia Pacheco, Cave Valley, Colonia Chuichupa, Colonia Garcia, Colonia Hope Valley, Colonia Oaxaca, Colonia Morelos, Colonia San Jose, Colonia Mormones, and Colonia LeBaron. (Some "fundamentalist" Mormons continue to live in Colonia LeBaron, however they are not affiliated with the mainstream Mormon church).
