Colonists used boycotts to make the British stop charging them taxes. For example the tea act. The Colonists dumped all of the tea that was meant to be sent over seas into the Boston Harbor as a show of independance. Colonists did not like paying taxes as well as the next living human being that didn't obey the British. Colonists were called Patriots because the DISOBEYED AUTHORITY.
