The first slaves brought to what is now the United States were brought to Spanish Florida in the 1550s and 1560s. The first slaves to arrive in the British American colonies were brought to Virginia in 1607.

The first African American arrived in the U.S. in 1619 and were sold by a Dutch man-of-war to the settlers of Jamestown. Then later on a lot more arrived to fill the desire of labor. By the end of the 17th century, there were about 1,300,000 Africans that had landed in the New World (aka the U.S.).

The European explorers traveled to Africa, where they began a trans-Atlantic slave trade that would bring millions of Africans to the America.

In August 1619 a Dutch privateers anchored on the Virginia coast and landed and sold twenty black slaves. They were the first black slaves who arrived in North America.
