Have your TRS (transmission range sensor) checked out. I had the same problem. Took it to a mechanic where he diagnosed everything and then changed out the sensor = $150.24 (sensor was $51.99, rest was diagnisis & labor.
it has a malfuction so its setting a code
first you nee to check and see if your car is referred to as OBDI or OBDII if its ODBI then you start with the car off.. turn the key to run but do not start the engine.. at this point you have less that 5 seconds to push the gas pedall all the way to the floor and press the overdrive button five times... then the check engine light will stay on.. and then blink... next its going to blink out the code for you for ex. blink-pause-blink blink-pause blink blink blink-pause blink n that would mean the problem code is 1231 just Google BMW problem codes and use that dcode to find out what the issue is..
With a scan tool, or try turning key on, off, on, off, on and counting the blinks of the check engine light. blink, blink, blink, pause, blink would be 31.
Probably because you need to check the engine.
On some if you turn key on, off, on, off, on. The check engine light may start to flash the code. blink, blink, bink, pause blink would be 31.
It shows that there is a problem with the transmission. Just like the check engine light, the overdrive light has codes that tell you what is wrong with the transmission and the various components connected with it.
A blinking Check Engine light indicates a serious problem with the emissions system. Have this repaired immediately.
if you have overdrive in that car it means that your about to go into overdrive
My check engine light has been on for one month but last night my check trans light flashed off and on about 3miles till I was home. Why and what do I need to do? I have a 2000 Isuzu rodeo.
Something has happen to the transmission. Had the same problem when pulling a heavier trailer, after the road levelled out, the light would go out. Check Transmission at dealer.
take it to a trans shop.
Check your fuses behind the glovebox. I had the same problem and turned out to be the fuse to the "lighter" was out. May, or may not be the same fuse but this light was letting me know that something was not "right."
