I dont know if you need to or not but, I do know there was a recall on the ignition for 96 Grand AM. I would call a local dealer and ask if this pertained to your car also.
The ignition switch is one unit and you replace the entire thing. Do not confuse the ignition switch with the key lock tumbler. They are two different things.

Did you replace the ignition switch? Not the key tumbler but the actual ignition switch. If so, you have a wiring problem.
