Of course you can buy the factory service manual from Helm Publishing (www.helminc.com). On eBay you can get these cheaper. The FSM is worth every penny.
From memory, there is shift control solenoid A/B and lockup control solenoid a/B on the front of the tranny, as well as several speed sensors. I've even made a test harness with indicator lamps to observe the action of the valves on my old accord.
From time to time you can find PDF files of the Helm books on the web:

The factory shop manuals have the wiring diagrams for everything in the 64 Impala. Carl King http://www.classiccarauto.com The only "wiring" to a trans in a 64 impala would be the neutral safety switch and the back up lights. it's not an electronic solenoid type transmission and the speedometer is a mechanical drive.
