The Mayflower passengers really had no clue in terms of where they were going to settle. While they believed it would be somewhere down the Eastern seaboard, their arrival in Plymouth pretty much dispelled that.

They were headed to Virginia not far from Jamestown, but were blown off course by a storm and began Plymouth in Massachusetts.

Virginia- but bad weather blew them to New England, and they were not able to sail south to Virginia.
