Here is a link to what I had found doing a Google search. http://www.aa1car.com/library/ford_lean_codes.htm Hope this helps. Check with AutoZone retailer in your region.

Includes links to very detailed instructions on what the fix(es) are.

leaking intake gaskets...
P0171, system too lean (bank 1). P0174, system too lean (bank 2). Start with checking for a vacuum leak.
Have you had your 4 oxygen sensors replaced? It turns out when they replaced my oxygen sensors, they were after market parts so the service engine light did not come and gave codes even though they were replaced.
everyone says po171 and npo174 are map sensor problems, i do not think so, the egr pressure sensor collects vaccum and tells computer about the egr , what i am finding ,especially in winter, the 2 hoses going to the pressure sensor get full of crud and the sensor cant read anymore.Today i found a 1997 ranger with po171 and po174 codes ,the hoses were fine but ice had built up inside the knozles of the egr valve pressure sensor causing it not to read.check hoses and look for vaccum leaks first. I concur with the vacuum leak. To find, spray carb cleaner around all suspect hoses and manifold areas with engine at idle. When the idle speed increases, you have found the vacuum leak!
It's important to buy genuine Ford parts. If you are not, this is probably the reason it continues. Also, check the reader on your mass air sensor (it's a wire). If it has crud on it, it will tell the engine that there is not as much air going through it then there really is and the motor will run lean.
from what i have experienced check the MAF sensor. you should check your o2 sensors also could be multiple things . but o2 sensors are a great place to start yes he is correct. however the maf or fuel filter or vacuum leak.. not o2s usually
i please the engine is not running good and if you accelerate the engine is not accelerate and the code is p0171
po343 is camshaft sensor 1 bad and po171 is bank1 sensor bad, in English po343 cam sensor is mounted on back of engine and hard to get to, the po171 is bank 1 o2 sensor easy to replace.
Try reading the card itself. They usually come with explanations.
here are the meanings of the following codes, po171-system too lean(bank 1) po174-system too lean (bank 2). ok the fix could be the following, maf sensor may need to be cleaned. you can go to any auto parts store and buy maf cleaner, but follow instructions on can. could be air leak in air intake hose to air cleaner or an exhaust restriction. the codes are the same but for each bank. please let me know the outcome carl, when cleaning mass airflow sensor, do not touch any part of the inside of it or it will go bad and the sensors are not that cheap! so be carefull when taking off maff sensor to clean it.
These indicate the 02 sensor for both bank 1 & 2 are reading 'lead condition'. This is very similar to a common problem with the 1999-2003 Windstars with 3.8l engines - there's an intake manifold leak, that allow air to get into the engine that the computer did not know about and measure. See "Related Questions" below for more about that problem, as I expect it's very similar.
