This is something you want to be sure about. I would check with the manufacterer. If you fasten the steel improperly, it could void the warrenty on it. Some contractors argue over which way is better: screw or nail on top of the rib, or screw or nail along side the rib. either way is sufficient. I prefer to screw on the top of the rib because it wont be in the trough that the water runs down, thus less water exposure to the rubber gasket on the screw. hope this helps.

how far apart should screws be placed ina metal roof
their are nutcerts in your roof. which use Allen head type srews. the Allen screws go through your roof rail and screw in. be sure not to over torque them. it can stripp your nutcerts.
Valley trim is usually installed onto the roof preceding the actual roofing panels. If you are using standard panels with W-Valley trim (or similiar) the Valley trim is screwed directly into the lathe using "Quick-Drill" (metal-to-wood) screws.

The method of installing screws in a metal roof will vary depending on the type of metal roofing being installed, and the manufacturer who is backing the warranty on said panel. A list of installation guides for popular panels is found here as examples: http://www.bestbuymetals.com/how-to-install-metal-roofing.html Check with the manufacturer of your particular panel type.

Depending on your location, if the metal roof is going to be more durable and sturdier than your existing roof, you will need a permit. Also if the metal roof is going to heavier than your existing roof, it will require a permit.
