Follow the spark plug wire from the #1 cylinder back to the distributor. This will be the 1 position. The #1 cylinder is the one at the front of the engine closest to the radiator.
Assuming you have set the engine to #1 TDC and marked the position of the distributor and the position of the rotor, remove the distributor hold-down clamp and it's bolt, then pull the distributor up and out.

The distributor cap should have the number 1 marked on it. The distributor cap is installed with the # 1 position facing the engine , slightly towards the drivers side of the engine
